Express a preference naturally in Portuguese
A preference tells someone what would suit you. You can compare alternatives, describe a current wish, or acknowledge both options before naming the one you favor.
Three ways to say it
Prefiro ficar em casa hoje à noite.
I'd rather stay home tonight.
Choose staying home over going out tonight.
Estou com vontade de tomar sopa.
I feel like having soup.
Describe what you currently feel like eating.
Os dois são bons, mas prefiro o lugar mais tranquilo.
Both are good, but I prefer the quieter place.
Recognize both alternatives while giving a clear reason for your preference.
Avoid translating word by word
English 'feel like having soup' describes a wish to eat, not a physical resemblance to soup. Learn the target-language expression for wanting or being in the mood for something as a complete unit.

A note on speaking Portuguese
These guides use Brazilian Portuguese. Você is a common everyday address; senhor or senhora may fit a more formal interaction. Eu gostaria and poderia can soften requests without making them complicated.
Keep the accents and nasal spellings, such as não and conexão. Portuguese in Portugal may use different everyday vocabulary or pronouns. The examples aim for broadly understandable Brazilian wording.
