How we make these pronunciation pages
Our guides combine dictionary pronunciation references, original sound explanations, and synthetic speech. They are written in English for learners who want to hear a word and understand how to say it.
References and attribution
We use Wiktionary pronunciation references and the structured extracts maintained by Kaikki. Each guide cites its individual source entry in its structured data. The selected IPA and reference material are attributed to Wiktionary contributors under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. Teaching notes are written by the ChatPal team.
Language varieties
Each guide identifies the language variety shown. Pronunciation can vary by region, context, and person; a name’s owner is the best authority on their own pronunciation. Use the transcription and regional note together when comparing a guide with another reference.
Synthetic audio
The audio is generated with synthetic voices. Each guide has separate word and example recordings. Normal speed is 1.00×; the slower options change playback speed while preserving pitch. Playback begins when you press play.
English respellings
English-style spellings are approximations, not a substitute for the IPA or recording. The notes explain important differences such as rounded vowels, nasal vowels, aspiration, and consonant length. We do not treat French or Korean rhythm as English-style word stress.
Checks and corrections
Publication requires a source reference, complete instructional content, and word and example MP3 assets. Automated checks validate records and audio integrity. Those checks do not establish native-speaker accuracy. “Last updated” describes a content update by the ChatPal team and does not imply a human listening review.
If the guidance or recording sounds wrong, tell us which word and language so we can investigate.
