Ask for more time naturally in Italian
A request for more time is easier to answer when it is specific. Ask briefly, propose a new deadline, or explain how much time is needed for a particular task.
Three ways to say it
Potrei avere un po' più di tempo?
Could I have a little more time?
Request a little more time when the exact extension is still being discussed.
Possiamo spostare la scadenza a lunedì?
Could we move the deadline to Monday?
Propose a concrete replacement deadline.
Mi serve un altro giorno per controllare i dettagli.
I need another day to check the details.
Explain the amount of extra time and what it will allow you to check.
Avoid translating word by word
English 'move the deadline' means change the agreed completion date, not move a line on the ground. Use the target-language scheduling construction, including the preposition used with the new day.

Being asked to finish immediately
Puoi finirlo adesso?
Can you finish this now?
Potrei avere un po' più di tempo?
Could I have a little more time?
Requesting a later report deadline
La relazione va consegnata venerdì.
The report is due on Friday.
Possiamo spostare la scadenza a lunedì?
Could we move the deadline to Monday?

A note on speaking Italian
Use tu with friends and Lei with someone you address formally. A request with vorrei or potrebbe can soften the tone; it still helps to say what you need clearly. The examples label the situation so you can choose the appropriate relationship.
Read doubled consonants distinctly and keep the written accents. The English translation explains the intended message; Italian often chooses a different construction rather than matching each English word.
