Ask for more time naturally in Hindi

A request for more time is easier to answer when it is specific. Ask briefly, propose a new deadline, or explain how much time is needed for a particular task.

Three ways to say it

  1. क्या मुझे थोड़ा और समय मिल सकता है?kya mujhe thoda aur samay mil sakta hai?

Could I have a little more time?

Request a little more time when the exact extension is still being discussed.

  2. क्या हम आखिरी तारीख सोमवार कर सकते हैं?kya ham aakhiri taareekh somvaar kar sakte hain?

Could we move the deadline to Monday?

    Propose a concrete replacement deadline.

  3. विवरण जाँचने के लिए मुझे एक और दिन चाहिए।vivaran jaanchne ke liye mujhe ek aur din chaahiye.

I need another day to check the details.

Explain the amount of extra time and what it will allow you to check.

Avoid translating word by word

English 'move the deadline' means change the agreed completion date, not move a line on the ground. Use the target-language scheduling construction, including the preposition used with the new day.

Being asked to finish immediately

क्या आप इसे अभी पूरा कर सकते हैं?kya aap ise abhi poora kar sakte hain?

Can you finish this now?

क्या मुझे थोड़ा और समय मिल सकता है?kya mujhe thoda aur samay mil sakta hai?

Could I have a little more time?

Requesting a later report deadline

रिपोर्ट शुक्रवार तक देनी है।report shukravaar tak deni hai.

The report is due on Friday.

क्या हम आखिरी तारीख सोमवार कर सकते हैं?kya ham aakhiri taareekh somvaar kar sakte hain?

Could we move the deadline to Monday?

Your turn

A note on speaking Hindi

These examples generally use respectful आप (aap). Familiar तुम (tum) changes the verb ending, and तू (tu) can sound too intimate or disrespectful in the wrong relationship. Where gender changes a first-person form, choose the version that describes the speaker.

Read the Devanagari alongside the romanization. Romanization is a reading aid rather than an exact description of every sound. Everyday Hindi can use familiar loanwords, while a literal English word order may sound unnatural.
