Ask for a favor naturally in Korean

A useful favor request names the task and leaves the other person room to say whether they can help. Choose a direct polite question, check availability, or add a time condition.

Three ways to say it

  1. 이 상자를 옮기는 것 좀 도와주실 수 있어요?i sangjareul omgineun geot jom dowajusil su isseoyo?

Could you help me carry this box?

Name the practical task so the person knows what you are asking.

  2. 잠깐 도와주실 시간 있으세요?jamkkan dowajusil sigan isseuseyo?

Do you have a moment to help me?

Check whether the person has time before explaining a longer task.

  3. 시간이 되시면 이 메시지 좀 확인해 주실 수 있어요?sigani doesimyeon i mesiji jom hwaginhae jusil su isseoyo?

If you have time, could you check this message?

Make a small written-check request conditional on the person's availability.

Avoid translating word by word

English 'give me a hand' means help; it does not ask for a physical hand. Some languages have a similar idiom, but a complete expression using the local verb for helping is easier to adapt reliably.

A note on speaking Korean

Most examples use polite 해요-style endings. A more formal ending may appear when addressing staff or making a careful request. Do not switch to casual speech with a stranger simply because the English translation sounds friendly.

Hangul is the main text; romanization helps you read along. Korean often leaves a clear subject unstated. Particles and endings carry information that English may express with separate words.
