Ask for a favor naturally in Hindi

A useful favor request names the task and leaves the other person room to say whether they can help. Choose a direct polite question, check availability, or add a time condition.

Three ways to say it

  1. क्या आप यह डिब्बा उठाने में मेरी मदद कर सकते हैं?kya aap yah dibba uthaane mein meri madad kar sakte hain?

Could you help me carry this box?

Name the practical task so the person knows what you are asking.

  2. क्या आपके पास मेरी मदद के लिए थोड़ा समय है?kya aapke paas meri madad ke liye thoda samay hai?

Do you have a moment to help me?

Check whether the person has time before explaining a longer task.

  3. अगर आपके पास समय हो, तो क्या आप यह संदेश देख सकते हैं?agar aapke paas samay ho, to kya aap yah sandesh dekh sakte hain?

If you have time, could you check this message?

Make a small written-check request conditional on the person's availability.

Avoid translating word by word

English 'give me a hand' means help; it does not ask for a physical hand. Some languages have a similar idiom, but a complete expression using the local verb for helping is easier to adapt reliably.

Moving a heavy box

यह डिब्बा भारी है।yah dibba bhaari hai.

This box is heavy.

क्या आप यह डिब्बा उठाने में मेरी मदद कर सकते हैं?kya aap yah dibba uthaane mein meri madad kar sakte hain?

Could you help me carry this box?

Asking someone who has a few minutes free

मेरे पास कुछ मिनट हैं।mere paas kuchh minute hain.

I'm free for a few minutes.

क्या आपके पास मेरी मदद के लिए थोड़ा समय है?kya aapke paas meri madad ke liye thoda samay hai?

Do you have a moment to help me?

Your turn

Ask someone to check a message if they have time. Keep the task clear and acknowledge their availability.

A note on speaking Hindi

These examples generally use respectful आप (aap). Familiar तुम (tum) changes the verb ending, and तू (tu) can sound too intimate or disrespectful in the wrong relationship. Where gender changes a first-person form, choose the version that describes the speaker.

Read the Devanagari alongside the romanization. Romanization is a reading aid rather than an exact description of every sound. Everyday Hindi can use familiar loanwords, while a literal English word order may sound unnatural.
