Show empathy naturally in Hindi
Empathy acknowledges what someone has shared without claiming to know exactly how they feel. Recognize the difficulty, offer to listen, or ask whether company would help.
Three ways to say it
यह मुश्किल लगता है।yah mushkil lagta hai.
That sounds difficult.
Recognize the difficulty of the situation.
अगर आप बात करना चाहें, तो मैं सुनने के लिए हूँ।agar aap baat karna chaahen, to main sunne ke liye hoon.
I'm here if you want to talk.
Offer to listen without requiring an immediate explanation.
क्या किसी का साथ होने से अच्छा लगेगा?kya kisi ka saath hone se achchha lagega?
Would some company help?
Offer company as a choice rather than assuming advice is wanted.
Avoid translating word by word
English 'I'm here if you want to talk' expresses availability and support; it need not describe your exact physical location. The target-language wording may say you can listen rather than translating 'here' literally.
See the difference in context
A friend describing a hard week
यह हफ्ता बहुत मुश्किल रहा।yah hafta bahut mushkil raha.
I've had a really hard week.
यह मुश्किल लगता है।yah mushkil lagta hai.
That sounds difficult.
Someone finding it difficult to explain what happened
जो हुआ उसे कैसे समझाऊँ, समझ नहीं आ रहा।jo hua use kaise samjhaoon, samajh nahin aa raha.
I don't know how to explain what happened.
अगर आप बात करना चाहें, तो मैं सुनने के लिए हूँ।agar aap baat karna chaahen, to main sunne ke liye hoon.
I'm here if you want to talk.
Your turn
Offer company to someone who is having a difficult time. Ask whether it would help rather than assuming they want it.

A note on speaking Hindi
These examples generally use respectful आप (aap). Familiar तुम (tum) changes the verb ending, and तू (tu) can sound too intimate or disrespectful in the wrong relationship. Where gender changes a first-person form, choose the version that describes the speaker.
Read the Devanagari alongside the romanization. Romanization is a reading aid rather than an exact description of every sound. Everyday Hindi can use familiar loanwords, while a literal English word order may sound unnatural.
