Body & Health in Italian
If you get sick in Italy, the first stop is often the farmacia, where pharmacists give advice on minor problems. These words cover body parts, symptoms, and the phrases you need at the doctor. Many body parts have irregular plurals, like il braccio and le braccia, which the word pages explain.

FAQ
Body & Health in Italian: common questions
How do I say something hurts in Italian?
Use mi fa male with the body part: mi fa male la testa (my head hurts). For more than one, use mi fanno male: mi fanno male i piedi.
Why is it "le mani" and not "i mani"?
La mano (hand) is one of the few feminine nouns ending in -o, so its plural is le mani. It is a common mistake, so learn it as a pair.
Where do I go for medicine in Italy?
Go to a farmacia, marked with a green cross. Even basic medicines like painkillers are usually sold there, not in supermarkets.
