How do I say something hurts in French?

Use j'ai mal à with the body part: j'ai mal à la tête (my head hurts). À le becomes au and à les becomes aux: j'ai mal au dos, j'ai mal aux dents.

Why is it les yeux and not les œils?

L'œil (eye) has an irregular plural, les yeux. The two sound nothing alike, so learn them as a pair.

Do I say ma main or la main for my own hand?

Often la main. When it is clear whose body it is, French uses le, la, or les: je me lave les mains (I wash my hands), il s'est cassé la jambe (he broke his leg).
