Time, Numbers & Colors in French
Numbers, days, and times are what you need to book a table or catch a train. Schedules in France use the 24-hour clock, written like 18 h 30, and numbers from 70 to 99 are built on 20, so 80 is quatre-vingts (four twenties). Colors are adjectives, so most of them agree with the noun.

FAQ
Time, Numbers & Colors in French: common questions
Why is 80 quatre-vingts in French?
From 60 up, French counts partly in twenties: 70 is soixante-dix (sixty-ten), 80 is quatre-vingts (four twenties), and 90 is quatre-vingt-dix. In Belgium and Switzerland you will hear septante for 70 and nonante for 90.
Are days of the week capitalized in French?
No. Days and months are written in lowercase: lundi, mardi, janvier. To say "on Mondays" in general, use le lundi.
How do I ask the time in French?
Say Quelle heure est-il ? or, more casually, Il est quelle heure ? The answer starts with il est: il est trois heures (it's three o'clock).
