Why do Portuguese adjectives have an -o and an -a form?

Adjectives agree with the noun: um dia bonito, uma casa bonita. Adjectives that end in -e or in a consonant, like triste and feliz, use one form for both genders and only change in the plural.

Do I use ser or estar with feelings?

Use estar for how you feel right now: estou cansado (I'm tired). Use ser for personality: sou tímido (I'm shy). The same adjective can change meaning: ele é chato (he's annoying), ele está chato hoje (he's being annoying today).

What does saudade mean?

Saudade is the feeling of missing someone or something you love. Brazilians say estou com saudade de você (I miss you). You will hear both saudade and saudades.
