Should I say oi or olá in Brazil?

Oi is the everyday hello in Brazil, and it is fine with friends, neighbors, and shop staff. Olá sounds a little more formal or written in Brazil, but it is the normal friendly greeting in Portugal.

Why are there two words for thank you, obrigado and obrigada?

The ending matches the person speaking, not the person you are thanking. Men say obrigado and women say obrigada. In casual Brazilian speech you will also hear valeu (thanks).

What does Tudo bem? mean, and how do I answer?

Literally "everything good?" It works as both "hi" and "how are you?". The usual answer is Tudo, e você? or Tudo bem, e você?, and nobody expects a long reply.
